Teen Therapy

Being a teenager isn’t easy. It’s overwhelming to navigate the pressure of social lives, academic expectations, world issues, and the ever-growing challenges that come with social media — both internally and externally.

I once read a really amazing book (my opinion, of course) called The 20-Something Manifesto. The author, Christine Hassler, compared choosing a path for your future to choosing from the Cheesecake Factory menu — there are just too many options.

“Too much possibility has become paralyzing. Being told, ‘You can do and be anything you want’ has become more of a pressure-cooker expectation than a motivational quote.”

Having someone in your teen’s corner to help them navigate these modern-day experiences can be incredibly helpful.

What We Can Work On

  • Family conflict or communication breakdowns

  • Relationship and friendship issues

  • Academic stress and perfectionism

  • Impulsivity and decision-making

  • Self-esteem

  • Mood swings

  • Trauma

  • Anxiety, panic, or depression

I will work with your teen to build an authentic, judgment-free connection where they feel heard and respected. My personality is a little more straightforward, and I view therapy as teamwork. I’ll listen to what they bring into session, give them the skills, hold the space, and guide them toward their goals — while they practice and challenge themselves outside of session.

I use approaches like parts work, Gottman, psychodynamic therapy, CBT, art, and Sand Tray to help teens learn communication skills, emotional regulation, self-awareness, and confidence.

Trust is essential in any therapeutic relationship, and I will always protect your child’s confidentiality. At the same time, I work from a relational lens and deeply value parent/caregiver involvement when it’s appropriate. With your teen’s permission, this may include joint sessions, regular check-ins, feedback, or supportive guidance so we can work as a team.

Your teen is with me for one hour a week — about four hours a month — and with you the rest of the time. That’s why your participation, understanding, and insight are such an important part of their growth and healing. Together, we make the biggest difference.
